The Pilgrim School

Special Education Needs

At The Pilgrim School we strive to promote opportunities for all pupils regardless of ability, gender or race.  If a child has a particular need, we will provide a curriculum that is differentiated and allows them to experience every area of the National Curriculum at an appropriate level.  We work hard to enable children to reach their full potential and develop fruitful relationships with peers and adults.  We seek to involve parents and pupils in all areas of learning and to invite a range of external professionals to help us in assessing, monitoring and responding to a child's need.

There are a whole team of people working with children with special needs.  We have a Special Needs Co-ordinator who is responsible for children with special educational needs.  All of our teachers work with the Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) to create individual educational programmes.  Some extremely talented learning support staff who specialise in working with children in 1:1 or group situations back them up.  Learning may take place within the classroom or in other designated areas that allow the person working with your child to focus directly on your child's needs.

We are a well resourced school and use a wide variety of equipment that allows your child to access the National Curriculum, whilst concentrating on the main English and maths skills.

Finally, I would draw your attention to the aims of our Special Needs Policy: we wish to create an environment that allows your child to flourish, we work hard to achieve this.

If you have any questions regarding special educational needs, please speak to Mrs. Gibbs (SENCo).
