Children may also bring in their own packed lunch but we ask that they do not bring in any drinks in glass bottles or sweets.

At playtimes your child may bring in a snack of fruit.  Our Year 6 pupils also sell items of fruit on the playground at breaktimes for 10p per item of fruit.

VOLUNTEER HELPERS!

Parents are an invaluable help to any school and we would really love you to bring your skils to our school!  If you are already 'thinking about offering your help', please contact the school.  There are many, many ways to help out and not just in the classroom.  We will always be able to find a job for a volunteer!

If you would like to be part of The Pilgrim School, please leave a message with Mrs. Adams or Mrs. Field.  Or, alternatively, feel free to stop Mr. Smith as he goes about the village.  We'll soon have you working with us!

FRIENDS OF THE PILGRIM SCHOOL

We do have an active parents' association who are always grateful for more volunteers.  It is up to you how much time you would like to give to helping out at events, etc.  The PTFA needs your help in one of two ways: -

1. You can become a member of the Committee that helps to organise fund-raising events for our school.

2. You can volunteer to help for about three hours on the actual day of the event.  This will involve running a stall, selling tickets, etc.

It is vital that the PTFA gets volunteers if they are to raise funds to provide better opportunities for YOUR children.  The PTFA raise money to spend directly on the children.  If you can help out in any way we would be more than grateful.

For more information, please contact the school office or complete the enquiry page and we will contact you.

HOME SCHOOL SUPPORT WORKER

Mrs. Laura Everhurst is our Home School Support Worker and she is based at the school on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday every week.  Home School Support Workers are school-based workers, who can respond quickly to children experiencing difficulties and liaise with their families.  They can advise on difficult concerns such as:

Behaviour problems

Attendance

Illness

Bullying issues

She can also put families in touch with other agencies and services who offer support to families.

If you have any worries or concerns, you are welcome to come into the school for an informal chat with Laura.  Alternatively, she can visit you at home if this is easier.  She will be around the playground/reception area at the start and end of each day.

COMPASSION UK - SPONSOR A CHILD

We thought it would be a nice idea to sponsor a child in another country who is less well off than ourselves.  In order to do this the children will be undertaking a number of fundraising activities.  The first of these was a cake sale in March 2009 and this will be followed by many other exciting fundraising activities.

The child that we have chosen to sponsor is : -

Nixon Paul Alvarracin Lozado and his date of birth is the 16th March 2003 and he lives in Ecuador.  Nixon lives with his mother, who is a peasant farmer.  His father does not lilve with him or support him financially.  Running errands is Nixon's household duty.  There are four children in the family; two girls and a boy in addition to Nixon.  For fun, Nixon enjoys playing with cars, playing ball games and playing group games.  He attends Bible class regularly and is in kindergarten where his performance is average.  Our support will help him to receive the assistance he needs to grow and develop.
