Welcome to The Pilgrim School official website!
Please click here to see some more pictures of our school grounds.
The Pilgrim School is based at Warwick Crescent in Borstal, Rochester, Kent.
The school site is used extensively as a resource to deliver the curriculum. The play areas, both tarmac and grass, are a credit to both sites and offer plenty of opportunity for play, nature observations and PE activities. Beyond the school, we use the village of Borstal to explore geographical and historical principles that allow the children to see themselves as part of a much wider community.
The school is a vibrant and forward-thinking organisation that is always looking for new and invigorating ways to ensure children achieve high standards.
Parents and children who are new to the school will be shown around by a member of staff to familiarise themselves with the layout of the buildings.
There will be a fortnightly newsletter sent home with your child (this will be published online under the heading 'Newsletters'). The newsletter will keep you informed about forthcoming events, teaching points and any organisational changes.
Office Times
The school office is open between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. If you wish to make an appointment to see Mr Smith, the Head Teacher, or wish to make an enquiry, please phone or visit during these times. Alternatively you can submit an enquiry via our enquiry page and we promise to get right back to you as soon as we can.

Admissions to The Pilgrim School
Admission forms are available from the school office. We have a planned admission limit of 30 and parents who are unsuccessful in gaining a place at the school have a right of appeal via the Governing Body and then the Local Education Authority. Full details are available at the school office.
Attendance
If your child is absent for any reason, please telephone, send a note or let us know via this website. If you have not telephoned, you will receive a telephone call from the school office requesting a reason for your child's office. Any unexplained absence has to be recorded as unauthorised. Please let us know if your child has a medical appointment during the school day and we will issue your child with a pupil pass. Please note that children are unable to leave the school unaccompanied by an adult during the school day.
If you wish to take your child on holiday during school time you will need to complete a holiday form which will then be signed by the Head Teacher. These are available from the school office.
If your child is sick during the school day we will contact you to collect them. Please ensure that your emergency contact numbers are kept up to date. Appropriate first aid will be administered by qualified staff, where necessary.
If your child is often late they will miss a vital part of the lesson, disrupt the lesson for everyone else and have their name put in the late book. If this happens, we will refer them to the Educational Welfare Officer.
The breakfast club is an excellent facility for people who have trouble managing the mornings as well as those who just want to have a lovely breakfast!
Homework
The homework set will vary with your child's age and ability. Younger children will tend to be set activities related to reading and learning number bonds. As they progress through the school, homework may involve using a library for research, and a wider range of mathematical work. It is our policy that Key Stage 2 children have regular homework in all classes. We look for your support in encouraging your child to complete the work that is set. At the start of each school year, you will be told on which days to expect your child to bring homework home. If you are unsure of what is required, please see your child's teacher.
If your child fails to return homework, you will be contacted so that you are aware that the homework is not being completed.
Please see individual class pages for details of their homework.

Walking Bus
We have our own walking bus that operates from the Esplanade in Rochester, up Shorts Way and then along Borstal Street to the school. Our walking bus leader is Mr. Back (parent governor). Please speak to him or Mrs. Field in the office if you have any questions regarding the walking bus and/or would like your child to join.
We desperately need volunteers to help man our walking bus. If you are interested please speak to Laura Everhurst. If you are interested in your child using the walking bus we have a waiting list based on first come first served. Priority will be given to children with parents/carers helping at any time.
Message from Cllr. Haydock (Member of the Governing Body)
We have identified some 'safe routes to school' through local alleyways. However, they are in poor condition and I fear it will take some time to clear them of undergrowth. Are there any parents that would like to form a working party to help with an initial clearing of the worst areas? If you would like to be part of this working party, please contact Mrs. Field in the school office or reply via the enquiry page of this website. Thanks for your help!
