2008 Science Explorer Workshop

Extreme Experience!

By Lee (Year 6)

On Friday, 1st February the Pilgrim School had a visit from the Observatory Science Centre at Hurstmonceaux.  Jane and Laura came to talk to us.  They set the show out in a game show way.  St Matthew's Church paid £50 towards it so that's why everyone only had to pay £1.  Everyone thought it was worth £1, because it was so fantastic!

Jane and Laura had done seven fun activities for the children.  The activities were called: china on table cloth, green snake (liquid to liquid), rockets, strengthen a bean bag bridge, food graph, go-karts and eggs in a glass.  They also did different rounds for each section.  These were called: predicting, fair testing, graphs and conclusion.

Jane and Laura split everyone up into two teams, with two puppets as team captains, called Asher and Billy.  At the end of the show Laura and Jane counted up all of the points from the teams and Asher's team won with 12 points.

Everyone thought it was a brilliant assembly and it made science a lot more interesting and fun!

Spectacular Science Show!

By Tallulah (Year 6)

Hurstmonceaux Observatory Science Centre came to our school on Friday, 1st February to show us some exciting science experiments for science week.  Jane and Laura presented the show with their hilarious puppets, Asha and Billy!

We were split into teams and answered some spectacular questions.  My favourite exciting experiment was the fabulous egg test.  I also enjoyed the rocket test, which was really fun.

Laura and Jane asked us questions throughout the show and, at the end of the show, they counted up the scores to see who had won and it was ... REDS!

I would also like to thank St Matthew's Church for being so generous and giving us £50 towards the show, it was worth it - the show was great fun.

Super Surprising Show!

By Eve (Year 6)

On 1st February 2008, Jane and Laura from the Science Observatory Centre visited the Pilgrim School to perform a game show called Science Explorers.

There were two teams, the A team and the B team.  There were team captains which were puppets.  Before we went into the hall everyone was given a voting card; on one side of the card was the letter A and on the other side was the letter B.

We looked at four subjects: predicting, fair testing, graphs and conclusion.  Laura and Jane demonstrated seven experiments which were really interesting and we had a quiz.  The A team won 12-11.  There was lots of audience participation during the experiments.

We would like to say thank you to St Matthew's Church for raising £50 so that we could see this amazing show.
